I Ran Through Winnipeg by temporallobe at Garmin Connect - Details

  • Weather: Today was about 12 Celsius (53.6 f) sunny and no wind!!
  • Distance for today: 42.20 km (26.22 mi)

Today was a great day. I don't know why. Perhaps it was being in a big city after being in the "wild" of Canada for so long.

We were joined by Doug in the car today. That was awesome. So here some pics of the city.

'sup Winnipeg

Who new.

Nice and flat

Running through the City of Winnipeg

Melissa in the car!!
Tomorrow is going to be busy. I have an interview with a morning show tomorrow. I get to run with Doug and I have a school presentation. So it will be a little busy.

Through Richer and Ste Anne to Tache

Through Richer and Ste Anne to Tache by temporallobe at Garmin Connect - Details

  • Weather: Today was about 12 Celsius (53.6 f) wind lot's of wind.
  • Distance for today: 41.73 km (25.92 mi)
I like this sign

The run was nice today. I got out of the border between Ontario and Manitoba and started to get a feel for actual Manitoba. Flat says it all. In all directions. It's funny because of my years running I can always get a feel for my time and distance by my site of the obstacles in the way. However in Manitoba it's so hard to judge your time and distance because it's all just flat.

That being said it's quite beautiful. You just feel so open, so unobstructed, I don't have the vocabulary to explain it. but with the natural curve of the earth in almost all direction and nothing getting in the way of your vision. It's quite amazing.

I did hit some winds today. For the most part they were hitting me in the right side, but when I did turn the one corner today. I was now head on into it. There were some wind and weather warnings but still it was not as bad as I have had in the past.

The side of the road got a little nicer as well. For the most part of the beginning I was on rocks or the road. However it did start to have a bit of a pavement.

Straight and flat. This is the rocky shoulder here but turned to concrete.

That was my run for the most of the day. Congrats to the Jet's for winning there game after 15 years of not being in Winnipeg. The energy was all across the province.

Here are some pics I tried to upload the other day for yesterday and the day before (20 and the 19th)

Very wet as I run with my plastic bag jacket thing

I did not find the West Braintree.

It's been a great couple of days. I am kind of in shock by how each province has it's own feel to it. I am also so happy to be Canadian and see all the people that stop to donate, honk to show support or leave comments on the blog and website.

There are days when I just feel like I am all alone. I mean I know Melissa is there and I know my wife is around. Maybe it's just me. This run means so much to me. Not the run itself but the conversations I want to start. I want the awareness to get out there. Brain Injury costs so much public money, it costs so much social loss, it changes not only the person that has the Brain Injury it changes every single aspect of there life and those around them. If something as simple as putting on a helmet can reduce 90% of these in the group that has the most chance to get an injury.........why wouldn't you.

You know I listen to the news. I hear all the same story's every one else does. I am not naive enough to think this is the only problem in the world, or even the worst. However this is a problem that we can actual take a few simple steps and see a drastic change. We can do this. We don't need legislation, we don't need any approval or funding. We just need to learn how to take smart risks. We all put on seat-belts. Why would you not put on a helmet?

In the news there is a story about a satellite falling to space. People are a little concerned about this. Yet statistically your more likely to walk your head severely (every 3 minutes in north america) than you are. Yet this satellite makes the news, get's people talking. More people will have a brain injury today than can fit into a huge plane. Yet if a plane goes down, thousands of dollars, hundreds of man hours go into finding out what happened. People have a fear of flying. Yet they are more likely to hit there head. Not just by a little bit. The stats are amazing.

We watch what we eat, we don't smoke because the number don't lie. Yet we don't put on helmets or take the appropriate steps to protect our heads. It's amazing. That's what I want to change. I don't wish anyone get's into a plane and it crashes, I don't wish anyone get cancer from smoking. However if we can reach the masses to start those changes, than we can do the same with head injury.

OK, Time to walk back to the RV and stretch and sleep.

A Wet and Windy Marathon

A Wet and Windy Marathon by temporallobe at Garmin Connect - Details

  • Weather: Today was about 12 Celsius wind and rain warnings
  • Distance for today: 40.86 km (25.38 mi)

Today was very wet. Wet when we got up, wet during the day, wet on the walk to the restaurant so I could upload today's run data.

In fact there are rain and wind warnings for the area we are in. My cell reception is kinda in and out. It took along time just to load this website so I could type this.

I am not going to attempt to upload pic's as it will take to long.

Besides the wet today was a bit of "just running" day. Not that everyday is not a "just run" day. It just felt like not allot else happened.

There was a definite buzz in air as the Winnipeg Jets are playing there first game in 15 years. I was listening to CBC Radio on my I phone and all the news was about the game that is on tonight. So as I am currently about a day or so away from Winnipeg I thought the Tom Cochrane song would be ideal.

As a Vancouver boy I have my own allegiances to my home grown hockey team the Canucks. This brought me back to thinking about the concussion that some of the Canucks have recently had.

I have such a huge respect for all athletes of any sport, the work ethic, the dedication, the years of effort.

So here is to a great first game of the new hockey season to the Jet's they against the Blue Jackets. So when in Rome. "Kick some ass Jet's"

I will upload some pics when I get a better signal. I am now going to go back to the motorhome.

First run in Manitoba

First run in Manitoba by temporallobe at Garmin Connect - Details

  • Weather: Today was about 13 celsius all day it was a good day.
  • Distance for today: 43.34 km (26.93 mi)

The first day in Manitoba was perfect. The weather was good, the distance was good. It was just a good smooth run day.

We did get a little bit of a late start as we had to check out of the hotel, load the motorhome and then drive to the border of Ontario and Manitoba where yesterday's run stopped.

I had great cell reception for the I phone so I was able to listen to the news and some music.

I have to say that Manitoba is flat. I mean look at this.
That's me way down there.
I had a couple of other photo's to upload but I am using my phone as my internet connection and it took about 15 minutes to upload that picture. I will upload more when I get a better connection and we will be in a big city soon. So my cell connection should get better.

We had a couple of people stop and make donations and a whole lot of honks today. I think the fact that they can see me from so far away gives them time to adjust to the fact that someone is running on the highway.

Tomorrow is supposed to be wet and windy. They are making wind warning on the news. So I am looking forward to that.

I am so amazed at all the people I have met, the distance I have gone and the amount left as well.

So good night for now. I need to stretch and prep for tomorrow.

Birthday Run and crossing to Manitoba

Birthday Run by temporallobe at Garmin Connect - Details

  • Weather: Today was about 13 celsius all day (
  • Distance for today: 32.97 km (22.48 mi)
  • Total Distance to Date: 5160.8 kl (3217.05 miles)

I woke up this morning after a night in the hotel. Well I tried to stay in bed longer but Melissa would have none of it. I was hoping for some loving on my birthday (meaning sleep in a bit). However this was not going to happen.

I made myself down to the RV for our normal morning pre marathon routine. I was very happily surprised to find Melissa had not only put up a Happy Birthday sign and had a card on the table. She made my favorite breakfast. Bacon and Egg's with potatoes. It was a great way to start the morning.
Yeah Birthday!!

The weather today kind of sucked.
My rain outfit.

However I had some company today.
Actually they were cycling for the Habit for Humanity.

I have crossed into Manitoba
Toronto has been a long run. Today was amazing because I crossed the province of Ontario into Manitoba. It's been a long journey in this province. I got to see my sister, my niece, my cousins and aunt and uncle. I have met so many fantastic people, seen so many things. I am so very tired!!

Tonight is the my second and last night in the hotel. I had my bath, skyped with my niece (oh and my sister as well) thanked all the people for there reaching out to me for another year of living. 39 years old. It's been an amazing year. Can't wait to see what the next year brings.

A late starting and painfully slow run.

A late starting and painfully slow run. by temporallobe at Garmin Connect - Details

  • Weather: High of 16 c (60.8 f)  low of 5 c (41 f)
  • Distance for today: 39.48 km (24.53 mi)
  • Total Distance to Date: 5087.22 kl (3169.14 miles)
  • Song of the Day: Long chat with Dana in the morning, the last 5kl I needed a boost. So it was the theme to Rocky 1

Today was on odd day. We slept in a little bit, this always makes me happy ;'), it was not to much later than normal however. We then drove the motorhome from the campground to the Wall Mart in Dryden. After dropping off our home on wheels we drove to yesterday's run stop and caught up with Dana from yesterday

Hi Dana
After a chat with Dana I was off.
Awesome weather today.

Some stunning views as I run.

Stretching at Foot Lake

I felt off today. Not sure why. When I was talking with Dana we were discussing how one day you feel invincible. Can walk or run forever. Next day you feel like you way a hundred pounds. Even though nothing has been changed. I have been running for a while. Some days I am a rocket, others I am an amoeba.

So we drove to a Boston Pizza and plugged in our electronics.
