Packing Away Some Distance by temporallobe at Garmin Connect - Details

  • Weather: Low of -6c High of 0c (21.2F to 32F) Sunny
  • Distance for today: 41.22 km (25.61 mi)
  • Total Distance to Date: 6951.76 kl (4328.59 mi)

Cold and a little cloudy.

Trucking on down the road.

That's me down there. Under the Revelstoke and Kamloops sign.

Still trucking

waving at no one.

Stunning views.

A little snowy.

The Motorhome and CRV

Glacier's Baby!!
We drove ahead after today's 41 km run to test out the roads up ahead. As we are in the Rockies we need to make the roads are not closed. We also drove ahead to the Best Western in Revelstoke.

We are here for two nights and can park the RV so we don't take up the whole road. The highway can be a little scary sometimes.

Today was a stunning day. Very sunny. Cold, but I was running through some of the most beautiful mountains.

I jumped in the hot tub at the hotel and then headed to the room to do the blog.

Short Run After the Football Game.

Short Run After the Football Game. by temporallobe at Garmin Connect - Details

  • Weather: Low of -6c High of 1c (21.2F to 33.8F) Sunny
  • Distance for today: 6.51 km (4.04 mi)
  • Total Distance to Date: 6910.54 kl (4302.98 mi)
  • Song of the Day: CBC Mobile News on the I phone.

The day started off cold and Foggy.

Bright and Early. Cold and Foggy

We had a long drive back to Calgary to be at the Stampeders Vs. Bombers (Calgary won 11-7) To toss the coin for the kick off.

We got there nice and early so we go and pick up the appropriate passes and get escorted to the field.

Tweeting that I am at the game.

We were advised to be at the game an hour early. It was a little cold as it's an outdoor field. However we were happy to be able to speak at such a big event.

Some last minute instructions for when to run out on the field.
After the starting fireworks and the game starts.

And I'm off.

It's hard to see but that is me out on the field.

There was some confusion at the coin toss. While they did announce, on the jumbo screen, the Run To Remember. There was no coin toss. I am not quite sure what I was doing there. No one said anything to me before I new it I was running back to the side of the field.

We then had a long drive back to Golden. It was getting on 5:30 or 6:00 when I started my run.

I managed to get in a few kilometers

Only 346 km to Kamloops!!

As the sun went down and it started to get dark. I started to have an anxiety attack. I had been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder after my head injury. The road also narrowed and there are no streetlights. I started to have a sever worry. My breath increase, I started to shake and I could hear my heartbeat pounding. I started to shake and new I was having a panic attack.

The first time I had a panic attack it freaked me out. However now I am able to recognize the symptoms and take the steps to just wait it out.

They don't usually last very long maybe about 5 to 10 minutes. At about the 7km mark I decided to call it a day. It was late, dark, and I was freaking out. It's time to call it a day.

So I am back at the motorhome and updating the blog.

We were up early again today. Debbie from the East Kootney Brain Injury Association took us out for breakfast. After breakfast we were off to EZRock 106.3 Morning show.

Add caption

After the radio interview we were off to Nicholson Elementary. We had a fantastic time with the great kids.

The kids had me in stitches with some of the questions. Just a fantastic school with great teachers and a great community. I was very moved by everything in Golden.

It was then time to get running.

Back to Running.

I am booking it!!

Love this country.
I have some fantastic people during this run. I have seen some incredible sites and have been very privileged to be a part of this event. Across my journey and in my years of dealing with all things brain injury. I have had the opportunity to meet some incredible people. One of those people that I am in awe off is Debbie.

She is a such an advocate for brain injury. She is unstoppable in her crusade and put together the last two days for us. I want to personally not only extend my gratitude but my deepest respect for someone who works so hard and puts in so much time for this very important mission we are all on.

It is people like Debbie that confirm my belief that we can make a difference.

Thank you Debbie for all you do.

Tomorrow we will be driving back to Calgary so I can do the coin toss at the
Calgary Stampeders game. Then I am heading back to Golden to finish today's distance as I only ran 32km today. The weather has held up and I am looking forward to pushing out of the Rockies strong.

Yahoo I am out of Yoho!!

Yahoo I am out of Yoho!! by temporallobe at Garmin Connect - Details

  • Weather: Low of -5c High of -2c (23F to 28.4F) Moderate snow all day.
  • Distance for today: 34.53 km (21.46 mi)
  • Total Distance to Date: 6871.94 kl (4279.01 mi)

OK this was the morning.

It was cold.

Shoulder of snow.

We did have some paparazzi

Can't go anywhere in the Rockies without being watched.

Just look at that.
I plugged away for 34 some odd kilometers and had to stop as we had to meet The Golden Rams minor hockey team, and the Golden Rockets Junior hockey team.

A huge thanks to these awesome sportsman and sportswomen.
I asked the kids to put up there hands if they had ever had a concussion. Once again shocked at how many children and young adults have had not only one but several concussions.

A special thanks to there coaches and supervisors for not only understanding the importance of prevention of brain injury but for taking the initiative to bring the teams out to the run. Golden has some great adults who really care about there kids. That was awesome.

Photo Op!!

They had made the signs as well. I was very moved. Then I had them move ;')

A little run through Golden
We ran to the Skating rink where we met with the Deputy Mayor and had a run to remember day proclaimed.

I want to give a very special thank you to the East Kootenay Brain Injury Association and to Debbie who works for them.

That is so cool!!

My fellow Brain injured brothers and sisters

Thanks Debbie

I was able to relax a little bit and talk one on one with other people that have survived a brain injury, and there family members. The one consistent in all of them is the lack of services. The drive to move from being someone with a brain injury to being a someone again.

The other consistent is the incredible gratitude for all those that work around brain injury. It's a demanding, complex, frustratingly slow and underfunded place to be. So hard to deal with the enormity of it and no one seems to notice. It is truly the "hidden disability"

So my hat's off to all those who continue the fight and to all the kids that will put on there helmets. We can change things. One step at a time.

Today I ran into British Columbia by temporallobe at Garmin Connect - Details

Today I ran into British Columbia by temporallobe at Garmin Connect - Details

  • Weather: Low of -8c High of -5c (17.6F to 23F) Cloudy and Cold.
  • Distance for today: 41.22 km (25.61 mi)
  • Total Distance to Date: 6837.41 kl (4257.55 mi)

Today was amazing. I mean "Over the Top" Amazing. It started very early with a meeting with the Mayor of Banff Karen Sorenser

Mayor Karen Sorenser and I

The Mayor had an unexpected meeting to run to, so we managed to get a quick photo and then she directed us to Councillor Grant Canning.

We sat in Town Hall and had a cup of coffee and talked about the reason for the run and the importance of Helmets. Especially in a ski resort town like Banff.

I want to extend my deepest gratitute to all the Mayors and city council that have allowed us the opportunity to talk about this very important issue. I do appreciate them taking the time out of there busy days to allow us this privilege. It means allot.

We did some quick shopping in the town and then we were off.

Stunning background to run in.

It was very cold, not to windy and a little cloudy today. I needed to get myself prepped for the cold.

Keeping my head warm.

Taking heed of the warning.

Enjoying the scenery.

The B.C. Border.

It was quite the moment when I hit the BC border. It's been a long journey and it's almost over. Just over 30 days and I will be in Victoria dipping my feet in the other side of Canada.

We have so far been able to avoid a storm system that has been threatening to come into our little journey. If this happens it can close the roads down and that adds some time to our little jaunt across the country. I have been very fortunate in the last month or so for no extreme weather. Just hopping it keeps on playing nice.

It was a great day. It was allot more emotional than I expected. It's just a roadside marking and a mark on a map. However for me it means I am that much closer to being home.

  • Distance for today: 40.01 km (24.86 mi)
  • Total Distance to Date: 6796.19 kl (4231.94 mi)

After yesterdays late night run, I did a short blog post and then we were up and out again. We needed to get in some distance before coming back to Canmore Alberta.

So I was off.

Amazing View.
Even the view in the tunnel is mind blowing.
Look at that (behind the guy in the weird hat) Amazing
The temperature is getting very cold. My water bottle is back to freezing.

I had to a quick break from the cold to head back into Canmore City Hall and chill with some politicians.

The Members of City Council.

I met a Bison named Bud

He was a little smelly but very friendly

Then I was back to finish as much as I could before sun down.

Trying to outrun the sun.

The last couple of days have been amazing. The people have been so awesome. The days are going to get a little busy!!

We had to pack up this morning from the hotel. Then we were off to ARBI  The Association for the Rehabilitation of the Brain Injured. (ARBI is much easier to say)

What a fantastic place. They were just amazing. I always feel like I am home when I am among my fellow brain injury survivors. I don't know how to explain it. We just "get it".

We had a tour of there amazing facility and got to meet the staff who so caring and proud of there facility. There was just a great air about the place.

They also made me a fantastic couple of cups and provided me with a gift basket of incredible goodies.

Great group

We then got to running after a quick stop at Canadian Tire for some chains for the RV and CRV. I was then off.

Great just what I need.

I ran until I got to Banff.
Hello Banff

I continued into the night and we got home very late.

I want to add how truly lucky I was to be a part of ARBI. I met so many amazing people. I don't want to talk about one and not mention the other as they were all just so great. I forget so much of it and it all kind of congeal's into one memory. I would be doing a disservice to all these great people.

I can just say thank you from the bottom of my heart to the incredible people of ARBI. You are all amazing.
