Wind. So much wind. Did I mention the wind.

Wind. So much wind. Did I mention the wind. by temporallobe at Garmin Connect - Details

  • Weather: Low of 3c High of 11c (37.4F to 51.8F) Sunny and very windy
  • Distance for today: 31.91 km (19.82 mi)
  • Total Distance to Date: 6716.08 kl (4182.16 mi)
  • Song of the Day: Random Podcast from I Tunes

Today was very windy. It was really, really windy and it was relentless. I don't think I have hit wind that powerful and that long since Newfoundland
Look in the background. There are the Rocky Mountains

Rocky Mountains and "beware of pedestrian signs" Perfect

I pushed so hard today.Every step was like trying to push open a door that was being pushed back. It was so consistent it just wore me down. Even with the rest and shorter last couple of days. The wind just kicked up my ass.

That being said it was a stunning run. The views of the Rockies is just amazing.

Wow!!
It is expected to get a little snowy and stormy in the next couple of days. OK off to bed!!

After yesterday's massage I was feeling like I had been in a street fight when I woke up this morning. I was a little bruised and battered and loving it. I have had a couple of massages and I have been asking for them to go hard core on me. Usually this means that I am very sore the next day so I was having them go a little easy on me. No longer.

We had a "drive by donation" today.

The car was hit by a strange wild animal.

Look how close Banff is!!

I was excited to see a hill. Then quickly the excitement was over and I was sore.

I had to cut the day short at 3:00 pm as we had an appointment back in Calgary at the hotel for me to get some foot care from WeCare. This is the third time I think they have come out and taken care of my feet. It's one of the reasons why I am still able to keep on truckin.

Tomorrow is a straight run day.

Running through Calgary

Running through Calgary by temporallobe at Garmin Connect - Details

  • Weather: Low of -4c High of 6c (24.8 F to 42.8F) Cloudy little wind.
  • Distance for today: 28.90 km (17.95 mi)
  • Total Distance to Date: 6653.41 kl (4143.23miles)
  • Song of the Day: All the kids at Dr. Gordon Higgins School.

So sleeping last night just wasn't going to happen. I don't know why I just could not get to sleep. It was one of those "if I fall asleep right now I can still get 5 hours of sleep"

"OK if I fall asleep right now I can get a good 3 hours of sleep"

I think I wound up getting about a total of 4 between all the waking up, falling asleep and waking up again.

However we had an early morning appointment at a massage therapist at Oceanus Massage Therapy and could she ever massage. It's a little strange going for a massage before the run. However I was just really happy to get it and she was a fantastic Masseuse

After getting beating up by the masseuse we were off to Dr. Gordon Higgins School.

All I can say is what a great school, great kids and a wonderful group of teachers and support staff.

Dr.Gordon Higgins School.
As always the kids steal the show. I inform them how important there brains are and how to protect them. I then shared my gamer-tag with a few of them. So I think I am going to have some sever competition when I get back home.

Running in the City of Calgary
We were then back to the RV to get "run ready" and then heading through the city of Calgary.

Out of the city and getting closer to the B.C. border

1988 Calgary Winter Olympics Ski thingie
I had a great moment when I saw how close the Rocky Mountains are. That means I will be in my home province of British Columbia on Wednesday.

We have a hotel for the next two nights. So I got to have a nice long bath with some epson salts after today's run.

I am exhausted and off to crash on a bed that is much bigger than the one in the RV!!

Wow What a day

Wow What a day by temporallobe at Garmin Connect - Details

  • Weather: Low of 2c High of 7c (35.6 F to 44.6 F) Sunny and windy.
  • Distance for today: 26.53 km (15.32 mi) Cold, little wind.
  • Total Distance to Date: 6624.51 kl (4125.28 miles)
  • Song of the Day: All the kids at Strathmore High!!

Today was one of those crazy day's. Up at 8:00 am and head out by 9:00 off to Strathmore High School. I had a presentation on protecting your head to three classes that all packed into one classroom.
Hello Strathmore High!!

First Class

Mayor of Strathmore

2nd Class

Back to running.

Hello Calgary

After the first class we had a meeting with the Mayor Strathmore who was there to present the Run To Remember Day declaration in Strathmore

We chilled in the teachers lounge with the Mayor and a local reporter. The mayor was really cool. A long time Police Officer he had dealt with the results of head injury's in his carrier. The one thing I get from allot of the officers and the first responder's is the difficulty in informing the families and the friends of the people who had just had a brain injury. From car accidents, to assaults to simply someone not wearing a helmet.

I don't want any family to get that news. If we can avoid that by putting on helmets.....................

We are really excited to be in Calgary. It's kind of like the last 10kl of the marathon. You can see the finish of the finish.

I know my distance was a little shorter than normal today but I would rather run less and talk more. I don't know when I will get another chance to have an audience like this. So we took our time. I can always run!!

Ok off to sleep and stretch another busy day tomorrow.

Ran to Strathmore Alberta

Ran to Strathmore Alberta by temporallobe at Garmin Connect - Details

  • Weather: Low of -6c High of 11c (21.2 F to 51.8 F) A little wind and cloudy
  • Distance for today: 39.66 km (24.66 mi) Cold, little wind.
  • Total Distance to Date: 6597.98 kl (4109.96 miles)
  • Song of the Day: Michael Moore "Here Comes Trouble" Audio Book.

Sorry for yesterday's "picture incident". I am at the same Boston Pizza and I have brought all my cords so I will add some pictures.

One thing about the Prairies is it really does all sort of look the same. What I mean by that is when running on the highway. Well there is not allot of difference between shots.

Hello Strathmore and see you soon Calgary

An uphill battle

We picked up a hitchhiker. How could we say no?

Less than a Marathon from Calgary!!

A picture of the yesterday's weather.

The next couple of days are going be really busy. So I am prepping for the upcoming "stimulus" overload for my damaged brain.

I can see the Rocky Mountains in the distance. I also want to thank all those who follow me on Twitter my twitter account is http://twitter.com/Temporallobe

I am filled with emotions today. I don't know why. It was just a deep day. My brain is running a little bit on overdrive and my thoughts are going from yelling one minute at politicians who can "loose" millions of dollars in this Canada North scandal  I am not surprised the government broke it's own law. I am not surprised they have this much money to spend when they say there is no money for healthcare, teachers, education, etc, etc. What I am surprised at is the lack of response from the citizens. The me's and you's of the country.

That's our money. Yet it is not going where we want it to go. We are so numb to this kind of action. We suffer a from a form of shock. We feel powerless. I know I did.

I got angry. I got mad. I wanted to know how this could happen (The lack of long term resources for brain injury) in today's world.

I got so frustrated when I heard things like "it's not in the budget" or "we closed down do to lack of funding". Then watch when the Defense Minister Peter Mackay takes military planes for his personal use.  How can this happen. I mean who thinks like that?

So I understand why people feel helpless. These actions are so far from removed from reality. We can't even think about that. The majority of us have a family member who needs medical help, we are working more than one job. We are paying our mortgage. We worried about groceries. It's surreal.

I don't know. Today was emotional. I have a Facebook friend named DJ who responded to me today and this was his statement when I was talking about how cold it was today.
"Remember those who will never leave assisted living while you are running".

He's right.

I don't know I was in my head allot today. Random rant I know. Just one of those brain day's

Running Wheatland County

Running Wheatland County by temporallobe at Garmin Connect - Details

  • Weather: Low of -4c High of 8c (24.8 F to 46.4 F) Windy, Sunny and Snow. Love this province.
  • Distance for today:41.62 km (25.86 mi) Cold, little wind.
  • Total Distance to Date: 6558.32 kl (4085.30 miles)
  • Song of the Day: Michael Moore "Here Comes Trouble" Audio Book.

I forgot the cord for my Laptop. So I am in BOston Pizza and I have no power for my PC. So I uploaded todays data and I have to work fast before my pc dies.

Today was actually a really fun run. It was cold, windy, sunny and then it snowed. I love the cold. I don't like the wet, but the worst for me is the heat. With the cold you can always add and remove layers. However in the heat. Well there is so much you can take off and not have the backpack rub you raw.

Tomorrow will be a straight run day, however the next few days are going to be crazy. In a good way.

I am finding I really like the Prairies. There is smell here that's kind of like farm and a wood fire.

Less than %5 left on my power. By by.

Hello Bassano

Hello Wheatland County

Back to running.

I forgot sunscreen today. I guess it was the cold that made me not think of sunscreen. So my nose has a little sunburn on it. Now my wife is going to lecture me on sunscreen and cancer. It's ok. I will soon forget. Perfect way to keep a relationship healthy.

Brooks and Beyond

Brooks and Beyond by temporallobe at Garmin Connect - Details

  • Weather: Low of 2c High of 12c (35.6 F to 53.6 F) A little head wind but not to bad.
  • Distance for today: 40.14 km (24.94 mi)
  • Total Distance to Date: 6476.74 kl (4034.62 miles)
  • Song of the Day: Random Podcasts I have downloaded, some CBC Radio, News

Today is going to a pretty small report. I need to spend some time doing some stretches. All and all today was a really good day. Everything just ran smooth. Lot's of farm animals and I have gone past some oil drills.

What is kind of cool about Alberta is you can actually see the weather. If you don't want to go into the storm. Drive around it. I am not kidding. You have options!!

Long Straightaway

Side view of me

I could not find my shoes.

A hill in the Prairies?

Possible addition to the team.
